The {new} Launch Collection
I am so excited to share with you a few designs from my upcoming S/S 2013 collection,
"Launch"
It's a very fitting collection name for the place I'm at in life right now. I'm at a major transition from the last 4 years of my life being dedicated to getting my fashion design degree, having babies and becoming a textile designer. I am now two weeks away from being done with school, have had two babies in the last 3 years and interned under one of the most talented fabric designers in the business.
My "Launch" collection houses designs that are reflective of this new chapter I'm beginning and my current modern perspective on design. I am still growing as a designer and will continue to "find my voice" (as they say) but I have been blessed to receive many humbling recognitions in 2013 for my design work (see here, here and here) and hope it continues.
So, which one is your favorite?

Phoenix New Times presents : Artopia
Over the weekend I was honored to be recognized by the Phoenix New Times as a "Big Brain" nominee in the category of crafters. The Big Brain Awards highlight local creatives in the valley of the sun. I was honored to be the only textile/surface designer among the other 18 nominees in 6 categories. My fellow nominees in the category of crafters were Brandon Boetto of SlabHaus, a high end artisan concrete studio and Keytha Fixico, a 17 year old high school student and fashion designer. The event showcasing all of these talented people and groups is called "Artopia" which was held at the Monarch theater in downtown Phoenix. I was lucky enough to have support from some of those that I love most while being able to feature my latest designs -- always a win, win!

Designer Series : Annabelle King
I am loving meeting new designers through social media and blogs. I seem to be stumbling upon incredible artists on Instagram, which is where I first saw the amazing work of Annabelle King, an 18 year old student from the U.K. Her illustrations are so breathtaking I can hardly believe it's all done on paper with pencil. Annabelle did a little Q & A insider with me to help us understand the direction and inspiration behind her drawings.

Q: When did you begin drawing?
A: I have drawn ever since I can remember – I still have some fashion illustrations and designs I did when I was about 6 or 7!
Q: Have you taken any drawing classes?
A: I am mainly self taught - I took art and design GCSE which helped me learn to use different media, etc. At the moment I am finishing my Fashion and Design course at Amersham and Wycombe College- just outside of London. Doing this course made me realize how much I love fashion illustration and that I definitely want to pursue it in the future.
Q: Since you are only 18, what are your university plans?
A: At the moment I am not thinking of going to university - I plan to do a fine art course that I could then maybe go on to university in the future.
Q: I noticed the majority of your illustrations are of fashion models. What is your inspiration behind that?
A: I love the shapes and stories fashion models create in editorials. Models such as Karlie Kloss and Natalia Vodianova have such interesting faces - I love translating this to paper.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: Hmm, that's a hard one because I do love every job I get, but it would probably be to collaborate with Beyonce. She is a huge inspiration to me and to work with someone like that would be absolutely amazing!
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration? (in any field of study)
A: I have many artists who inspire me such as Sabine Pieper, Bec Winnel and also my Mum. As I was growing up, my Mum was always drawing landscapes, nature and beautiful things so she has definitely inspired me to draw.
Q: What else besides fashion do you like to draw?
A: I LOVE drawing faces, especially eyes. I feel that they hold so much emotion and to capture that emotion with a pencil and paper is amazing.
Q: Do you have a few fashion houses that you seem to find yourself illustrating all the time?
A: I love taking any couture pieces off the catwalk and making it into art. I love Alexander McQueen, but I have not yet illustrated any of his work.
Q: What is your favorite illustration that you have drawn?
A: I do have a few favorites, but my most favorite would have to be the beauty illustration of Beyonce.

Fashion Friday
This fashion friday post is being brought to you on Saturday.
I saw this look on Pinterest and instantly thought this girl is really cool -- I love this look. My style preference will always be more traditional or classic, but lately I've been leaning so much more modern...and I like it! I mean that jacket has to be the coolest thing I've ever seen. I'm loving the mix of prints and stripes and all the textures that are happening-it's really working for me.
